Holland House Infant School And Nursery

Happy and Hard Working

The Governing Board

The Governing Board (GB) at Holland House Infant and Nursery School plays a vital role in ensuring that every child receives the best possible education.  Whilst the day to day running of the school is the responsibility of the Head Teacher, the GB focuses on its strategic leadership role through its 3 core functions of setting strategic direction, holding school leaders to account for improving performance and ensuring that money is well spent.

The GB operates as a team and works closely with the Head Teacher.

Governors serve a 4 year term of office and the GB consists of 13 governors who have either been elected by parents or staff, or appointed by the board:

2 parent governors

8 co-opted governors

1 local authority nominated governor

1 staff governor

1 Head Teacher (ex-officio)

Clerk to Governors

The GB is also able to appoint associate members where it feels they have specific expertise and experience to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school.

Governors abide by an agreed Code of Conduct and fulfil their duties in accordance with the seven principles of public life.

The GB meets twice per term.  These meetings cover matters such as the board’s statutory duties, the curriculum, pupil progress and achievement, finance, premises, health and safety, pupil welfare & safeguarding and the ways in which it can take account of and respond to the views of parents and carers.

An important part of being a governor is getting to know the school, and governors regularly visit the school to monitor key aspects of the school’s development plan.  Being in school is a key way for governors to see for themselves how pupils are progressing, the impact of financial expenditure and how policies are being implemented.  Governors hear regularly from members of staff, both informally during visits and through formal presentations at GB meetings.

The GB regularly reviews its knowledge and skills and takes part in training and development activities to ensure it continues to fulfil its role and responsibilities effectively.
